Nice Panorama
The “Provencal market” (a covered market located on course Masséna, opposite the Town Hall) is a must visit to Antibes. In summer, the market is open every day. In the morning, you can buy enough to make your meals or snack if you're of passage. In the evening, local artists and artisans exhibit their latest achievements.
The morning, do not be afraid to face the crowd, this is what makes part of its charm. Stroll through the narrow alleys and discover the country's products it contains (this is one of the last places where you can buy direct production of farmers in the region of Nice). Do not expect to find the product prices of the supermarket but instead you will find products with scents and flavors forgotten.
You will discover the classics that make the charm of Provence: lavender flowers as well as the famous roses of Antibes, appetizers with stalls of all kinds of olives, tapenade of black or green olive or tapenade of anchovy, preserved lemons, candied or dried tomatoes.
Vegetables, some organic, are fresh and seasonal. Apart from the products of a usual source (Provence or Spain), choose small local producers who will show you the local varieties (strawberries of Carros or La Gaude, pattypan squash, beans, zucchini flowers, etc.).
Take the time to talk with peasants from the mountains of the hinterland of Nice with their cheese or vegetables having non-calibrated forms (because they don`t use any insecticides and fertilizers). Buy fresh organic eggs to prepare omelettes with the market‘s spices (parsley, chives and other aromatic herbs).
Enjoy your visit to the Provencal market to leave with many spices which are offered to you. Your dishes will be flavored throughout the year with the souvenirs of your holiday in the south of France.
You can also enjoy Provence’s wine tasting to cheer up your appetizers. Rosé wines are excellent to bring good mood and facilitate discussions.
If a hungry stomach is nagging you, you can even try a local specialty, a “socca from Nice” which is a cake composed of chick-pea flour and olive oil cooked over a wood-burning stove.
